FAQ

Faq

Q: I need a sample recreation, how much do you charge for a quote of the sample I need to replay?
A : NOTHING, it’s FREE!

Q: Are you sure the new replay will sound like my original sample?
A : We have 5 years experience of sample replays and sound-a-like services, we are pro mixing and mastering engineers working with talented musicians with different music backgrounds covering all music styles, we work in pro studios equipped with lot of modern and vintage gears including collector’s instruments, and at last but not the least we have access to the finest singers in Europe and America !

Q: Is it possible to replay my sample without drums and bass?
A : Sure, it’s possible.

Q : Can you replay just the vocals from a sample, without any music?
A : Of course, we have done this several times, including vocal loops or full acapellas.

Q: I’ve sampled a music loop which was originally 98bpm, but in my track it’s 128bpm – at what tempo would you replay it?
A : The best to emulate the original sample as closely as possible it’s to replay at the exact same tempo of the original recording to stretch it later with some of the best time-stretching algorithms available on the market sounding perfectly natural and totally in synch. However, we can also replay the sample at your specific tempo if necessary.

Q: The sample I want to use has a noisy sound that I don’t like. Can you replay it without that sound keeping all the rest?
A : Yes, we can easily do it but bear in mind that the replay mix may sound significantly different without that sound.

Q: Can Recreating Samples make backing tracks for karaoke purposes or public appearance needs?
A : We could, but Recreating Samples is different than companies specialised in these services, it’s a quality difference which costs more than general sound-a-like studios doing similar covers instead precise recreated samples. We make precise emulations of original recordings, we do not work with MIDI files. Karaoke backing tracks are always owned by the company that made them.

Q: Can I get all the separate parts, to remix the replay on my own?
A : Yes. It also serves to prove the sample was actually replayed and it wasn’t the original one.

Q: I don’t know anything about copyright law, if you replay something that sounds like the original is that legal?
A : Yes, it’s absolutely legal. There is a copyright in the mechanical recording (the audio), and a copyright in the composition (or “publishing” – the written lyrics/music of the song). About replays and sound-a-like production, the mechanical copyright is not infringed upon, because the recording has been covered by somebody else, made brand new and usually long after the original artist first recorded it. The publishing copyright remains to be cleared because the composition of written lyrics and/or music remains unchanged. Ultimately, according to UK, EU & U.S. music law, a sample replay is classified as being in the exact same category as a “cover version”. Despite the fact that it may sound like a virtual “clone” of an original work – as long as it is a brand new recording, then a “cover version” is exactly what a sample replay is.

Q: Do I have to pay royalties to the original recording’s publisher?
A : It’s quite easy to approach the publishing company of the original recording and obtaining their approval/clearance. You could also apply on-line, via clearance company websites. Most of the times publishers are very happy to see their repertoire covered making profit for themselves and their respective writers.
The amount they decide for the share and percentage of publishing depends upon how much of their original work has been used in the new work featuring the sample replay.

Q: OK, I’m ready to get a sample replay from Recreating Samples, but how much will it cost me and how long will it take to be produced and delivered?
A : We need to hear it and to analyse the material before, please send us an MP3 as URL’s link and let us know what do you need to replay exactly, a loop, a full track, vocals only or the entire material you are sending, don’t be lazy explaining the job 😀
Recreating Sample evaluates the replay cost and time based on many factors, some of them including:

  1. Length of the sample, loop or full track.
  2. Vocals, more acoustic instruments (e.g. large brass, reeds, strings orchestra).
  3. Unusual sounds, special effects, rare instruments/gears.
  4. Unusual electronic sounds programming.
